However, it was officially inaugurated on September 16, 1887, and was named \"G\u00e1lvez Market\" in honour of the deceased governor Lucas de G\u00e1lvez (1739-1792). Years later, in 1909, it was demolished and rebuilt, providing spaces for the merchants, and in 1948 it was demolished for the second time, offering even more spaces, leaving it as we know it today. In this market, you can explore its long aisles and find a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables grown in the region, as well as meats and spices. In addition, you can taste traditional Yucatecan food such as panuchos, salbutes, turkey broth, relleno negro, chocolomo, and typical Yucatecan sweets.
