Located on 65th Street, a few metres from the city museum, you will find the Lucas de G\u00e1lvez Market, which was initially built in 1884 and consisted of three galleries. However, it was officially inaugurated on September 16, 1887, and was named \"G\u00e1lvez Market\" in honour of the deceased governor Lucas de G\u00e1lvez (1739-1792). Years later, in 1909, it was demolished and rebuilt, providing spaces for the merchants, and in 1948 it was demolished for the second time, offering even more spaces, leaving it as we know it today. In this market, you can explore its long aisles and find a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables grown in the region, as well as meats and spices. In addition, you can taste traditional Yucatecan food such as panuchos, salbutes, turkey broth, relleno negro, chocolomo, and typical Yucatecan sweets. Admire the incredible craftsmanship of the locals in the artisan section, where you can find hand-embroidered or hand-painted Yucatecan clothing.
