Joroches are a typical and peculiar dish from Yucat\u00e1n, very easy to prepare and with a great flavour. Joroch, spelled Horoch' in Maya, means little tortilla or dough ball. The preparation involves kneading corn dough to achieve a peculiar shape, somewhat like elongated ovals. Nowadays, they are made into small tortillas and filled with ground meat, chaya (a leafy green vegetable), cheese, egg, among other ingredients. Over the years, the dish has evolved with different variations and components that can be added to the masa. The origin of this dish arose from the economic needs of Yucatecan families, who found this option tasty and made with ingredients readily available to them.
